Volunteering Victoria and social media Print E-mail

Yes, Volunteering Victoria has been collecting friends / fans, joining causes and twittering at the same time!

We have been maintaining a presence in social media sites Facebook, MySpace and Twitter for a number of months now.

At this stage, we are not yet armed with clever conclusions about what effect our participation in these sites have on our organisation but we recognise that having a 'presence' in these platforms is important.

Social media sites like those mentioned here give us exposure beyond the usual networks. They give us a chance to preach beyond the coverted, in terms of our messages on volunteering.

They are also excellent avenues for meeting generation X and Y as well as  a wide range of people of all ages and from varied backgrounds.

Best of all, there are many opportunities to meet new friends and bump into old ones.

Anyone who has thoughts they would like to share on the use of social media for for-for-profit/community/volunteer-involving organisations is welcome to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
