Shades 4 AIDS day on 7 May 2010 Print E-mail

School kids around Australia will be invited to participate in the first ever national Shades 4 AIDS day on Friday May 7, 2010.

This day is a public education and fundraising event for the prevention of Childhood HIV – and to help support those children living with AIDS. Kids at registered schools will be allowed to wear shades (sunglasses) all day, in return for a gold coin donation. During the day, they’ll also have the chance to learn more about AIDS and HIV through a series of lesson plans and DVDs.

We are seeking young volunteers. If you are at school then you can organise Shades 4 AIDS day at your school. If you have left school you can help with supporting schools run the event, such as visiting schools to speak about childhood HIV and how it can be prevented.

The money raised will help support Hope for Cambodian Children (HfCC). This is a charity doing amazing work in Cambodia, a country that has the highest rate of HIV in SE Asia. HfCC focuses on preventing the transmission of HIV from mums to babies, and run an orphanage for kids who are HIV positive, or whose lives have been affected by AIDS.

Shades 4 AIDS plays an important role in teaching our children, and our society, about HIV and AIDS. Because of wide-spread ignorance, AIDS-related issues such as discrimination are still rife. Through events such as Shades 4 AIDS, HfCC aims to change this.
